High-Rise

LEAVE THE REAL WORLD BEHIND.Ā

highriseIn 1970s London, doctor Robert Laing (Tom Hiddleston) moves into a modern high-rise tower that has everything you could ask for, giving its occupants less and less reasons to even leave the building. J.G. Ballardā€™s cult novel, deemed ā€unfilmableā€ by some people, took a long time to reach the big screen. This satire on the British class system deliberately goes off the rails in its second half and its path isnā€™t entirely convincing. Still, the filmmakers do an admirable job trying to navigate through the novelā€™s challenges and create a visually gorgeous, stylish nightmare. A sense of humor helps a lot, and so do the superb actors.
