My Dear Secretary

HE CHASED HER… ‘TIL SHE CAUGHT HIM!

mydearsecretaryAspiring writer ”Steve” Gaylord (Laraine Day) is thrilled to be hired as famous novelist Owen Waterbury’s (Kirk Douglas) new secretary… but she soon realizes that there have been many before her. One of Douglas’s earliest films is this harmless comedy where he and Day are fairly engaging as the two writing talents who embark on a noisy working relationship. They are ably supported by a fun cast, especially Keenan Wynn as Douglas’s buddy who’s constantly burning things in the oven. But the old-fashioned story keeps complicating the romance in every contrived way it can.

1948-U.S. 94 min. B/W. Directed by Charles Martin. Cast: Laraine Day (Stephanie ”Steve” Gaylord), Kirk Douglas (Owen Waterbury), Keenan Wynn (Ronnie Hastings), Helen Walker, Rudy Vallee, Florence Bates.
