The Intern

EXPERIENCE NEVER GETS OLD.

theintern70-year-old widower Ben Whittaker (Robert De Niro) is hired as an intern at a fresh New York City company that sells clothes online, but its founder (Anne Hathaway) is less than thrilled… One of Nancy Meyers’s least satisfying comedies is an attempt to bridge generations. Its two stars deserve kudos for doing their best with the material and their performances is virtually the only reason to see this film. The problem with it is its overly saccharine approach and a story whose point is obvious from the beginning. The running time would’ve been OK if Meyers had done something to shake things up.

2015-U.S. 121 min. Color. Written and directed by Nancy Meyers. Cast: Robert De Niro (Ben Whittaker), Anne Hathaway (Jules Ostin), Rene Russo (Fiona), Anders Holm, Andrew Rannells, Adam DeVine… Nat Wolff. Voice of Mary Kay Place.

Trivia: Jack Nicholson was allegedly considered for the lead role; Reese Witherspoon was first cast in Hathaway’s role, but dropped out.
