2016: Obama’s America

LOVE HIM OR HATE HIM, YOU DON’T KNOW HIM.

2016obamasamericaA surprise hit from conservative commentator Dinesh D’Souza who set out to copy Michael Moore’s formula, by putting himself front and center and discard any pretense of being fair and balanced. Basing his film on a book he wrote in 2010, D’Souza goes to Kenya and Indonesia looking for the “real” Obama, drawing conclusions about the President and his father after reading Obama’s “Dreams from My Father” and talking to people who knew the President’s dad. D’Souza’s thoughts seem strainedĀ and are often personally insulting, his views on Obama’s policies distorted. It will nevertheless appeal to right-wingers, and its production values are high enough. Still, D’Souza’s paranoia grows wearisome.

2012-U.S. 87 min. Color. Written and directed byĀ Dinesh D’Souza, John Sullivan.Ā
