FRANK WANTED THE HOLIDAYS TO BE PICTURE PERFECT. WHAT HE GOT WAS FAMILY.Ā
When all of his four sons and daughters cancel on him at the last minute, widower Frank Goode (Robert De Niro) embarks on a road trip to surprise themā¦ but they all keep secrets from him. In the Italian 1990 original, Marcello Mastroianni played the ailing old man, and De Niro is a perfect choice to follow in his shoes. Some critics found this film too sentimental, and there’s nothing here that makes it truly stand out. But it’s still moving and De Niro is so credible as a man who has yet to accept the fact that the days when he was working, had a wife and adorable kids, went by too fast.
