The World’s End

PREPARE TO GET ANNIHILATED.

worldsendNe’er-do-well Gary King (Simon Pegg) gathers his old friends for a pub crawl in their hometown of Newton Haven, little dreaming that they’ll get wrapped up in a global battle… Edgar Wright ends what he and trusted partner Pegg have labeled the “Cornetto Trilogy” (after Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz) with a sci-fi comedy that echoes the franchise’s first chapter in particular, as well as Invasion of the Body Snatchers. This time they’ve gathered a terrific gang of old chums for the pub crawl, thrown in lots of hilarious dialogue, slapstick and action… but also touch on the challenges of adulthood. Clever, funny, and the soundtrack is full of golden ’90s oldies.

2013-Britain. 109 min. Color. Widescreen. Produced by Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Nira Park. Directed by Edgar Wright. Screenplay: Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg. Cast: Simon Pegg (Gary King), Nick Frost (Andy Knightley), Rosamund Pike (Sam Chamberlain), Paddy Considine, Martin Freeman, Eddie Marsan… Pierce Brosnan, Rafe Spall. Voice of Bill Nighy.

Quote: “We’re going to see this through to the bitter end. Or… lager end.” (Pegg)

Last word: “One of the reasons there was a six year wait between the second and the third one is because we wanted to make sure the idea was really strong and the story was really good. So we’d actually had the idea a while ago, but I think we had to get older to actually pull it off. If we’d have written the same script six years ago, it wouldn’t have been the same, so I’m glad we waited. We had to let this particular one mature a little bit.” (Wright, GQ Magazine)
