Easy Money: Hard to Kill

easymoney2JW (Joel Kinnaman) is about to be released from prison but an unpleasant surprise is waiting; at the same time, Mrado (Dragomir Mrsic) plans to escape and Jorge (Matias Varela) returns to Sweden, challenging the Serbian Mafia. The sequel successfully fuses elements from two novels by Jens Lapidus, and director Babak Najafi continues smoothly in Daniel Espinosa’s path. The film ramps up the action and gives more room to Fares Fares’s character, a naive small-time hood with daddy issues. Competently made, exciting and well-acted (especially by Varela), but packs less of a punch in its look at social issues this time.

2012-Sweden. 99 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Babak Najafi. Novels: Jens Lapidus. Cast: Joel Kinnaman (Johan “JW” Westlund), Matias Varela (Jorge Salinas Barrio), Dragomir Mrsic (Mrado Slovovic), Fares Fares, Madeleine Martin, Dejan Cukic.

Trivia: Original title: Snabba cash II. Alternative title: Easy Money II. Followed by Easy Money: Life Deluxe (2013).
