TWO MOTHERS CONNECTED BY LOSS. INSPIRED BY HOPE.
Mary (Hilary Swank), an American, and Martha (Brenda Blethyn), a Brit, meet by chance in Mozambique after losing their sons to malaria on earlier trips to Africa; they join forces in the battle against the disease. Writer Richard Curtis has a well-known passion for humanitarian causes in Africa and this TV movie serves a clear purpose ā inform the wealthy nations of the world that malaria is still a huge killer, and stir compassion by showing how it affects all of us. The story takes a long time before it touches us, but its preachy and mundane qualities are offset by heartfelt scenes between the two stars.
