The Parade

Gay activists in Belgrade battle the authorities and neo-Nazis for the right to stage a Pride parade; surprisingly, help comes in the shape of veterans from the Yugoslav Wars… A daring, broad comedy from filmmakers who saw the 2010 Pride parade in Belgrade turn into a battlefield and decided that this would be the right approach to make their fellow countrymen start viewing gays as human beings. Makes fun of clichés in the depiction of the activists and the veterans (with amusing references to Ben-Hur (1959)); mixed results, but this unwieldy film eventually builds to a moving climax.

2011-Serbia. 115 min. Color. Widescreen. Written and directed by Srdjan Dragojevic. Cast: Nikola Kojo (Limun), Milos Samolov (Radmilo), Hristina Popovic (Biserka), Goran Jevtic, Goran Navojec, Dejan Acimovic.

Trivia: Original title: Parada.
