Pet chameleon Rango is lost in the Mojave Desert and ends up the new sheriff in a small town called Dirt; when its water reserves turn out to be nearly empty, Rango begins to investigateā¦ This has to be the first animated film to include a Hunter S. Thompson jokeā¦ but then, Johnny Depp voices the lead character. On the surface, Gore Verbinski’s first venture into animation may look like a movie for kids, but it’s too scary for the youngest and the jokes are too adult. Still, this is an engaging adventure, with creative visual ideas courtesy of cinematographer Roger Deakins.
