Below

SIX HUNDRED FEET BENEATH THE SURFACE TERROR RUNS DEEP.

In 1943, a U.S. submarine picks up three survivors from a torpedoed hospital ship; it soon turns out that both the crew and the survivors have dangerous secrets… This movie must have been pitched as “ghosts on a sub”, which sounds intriguing enough for me to want to check it out. Unfortunately, the story starts out slowly and doesn’t build to much in spite of the suitably claustrophobic environs. Not a bad idea at its core, but visual effects look cheap and the cast is hardly inspiring, not even Bruce Greenwood.

2002-U.S. 105 min. Color. Directed by David Twohy. Screenplay: Darren Aronofsky, David Twohy, Lucas Sussman. Cast: Matt Davis (Douglas Odell), Bruce Greenwood (Brice), Olivia Williams (Claire Page), Holt McCallany, Scott Foley, Zach Galifianakis.
