Titanic

ONE VOYAGE. A WORLD OF UNTOLD STORIES.

An often-told story gets another miniseries treatment, this time launched on the centennial of the Titanic disaster. In the eyes of Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes, this is a tale not only about the mistakes that doomed the ocean liner, but also about the ills of the old class society. We follow a large number of characters, none of them terribly engaging. Each of the four episodes begins with a fresh look at various events that lead to a cliffhanger just as passengers are being hauled into lifeboats; the last episode inevitably goes through with the actual sinking. Technically well made, but all in all rather lifeless.

2012-Britain-Canada-Hungary. Made for TV. 180 min. Color. Directed byĀ Jon Jones. Teleplay: Julian Fellowes. Cast: Toby Jones (John Batley), Maria Doyle Kennedy (Muriel Batley), Linus Roache (Earl of Manton), Brian McCardie, Linda Kash, Thomas Aldridge.

Trivia: Another miniseries on the subject was produced at the same time, Titanic: Blood and Steel.
