The Woman in the Fifth

American novelist Tom Ricks (Ethan Hawke) arrives in Paris, tries to get in touch with his estranged family, rents a room in a shabby placeā€¦ and meets a mysterious woman (Kristin Scott Thomas) who lives in the fifth arrondissement. Roman Polanski might as well have served as a consultant on this project; the environs, claustrophobic atmosphere and the psychological theme are reminiscent of Polanski thrillers. The movie leaves some of its mysteries unsolved, which is not a problem. Its leisurely pace and lack of memorable moments are though.
