Gulliver’s Travels

BLACK IS THE NEW BIG.

After lying about being a travel reporter, mailman Lemuel Gulliver (Jack Black) is sent to the Bermuda Triangle on an assignment and ends up a prisoner in a land of tiny people. The Shark Tale director’s first live action film is so stacked with CGI effects that it almost feels like an animated adventure. That would be tolerable if only the jokes were funnier and the original Jonathan Swift tale hadn’t been so obviously repackaged in order to fit a brainless big-budget 3D bonanza like this. Black can’t save it.

2010-U.S. 85 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Rob Letterman. Novel: Jonathan Swift. Cast: Jack Black (Lemuel Gulliver), Emily Blunt (Princess Mary), Jason Segel (Horatio), Amanda Peet, Billy Connolly, Chris O’Dowd… James Corden.
