BORAT WAS SO 2006.
In this followup to Borat (2006), we’re introduced to another character from Sacha Baron Cohen’s Da Ali G Show (2003), the Austrian fashion reporter Brüno who journeys to America in a brave attempt to find superstardom. His cartoonishly absurd in-your-face homosexuality may cause a roadblock or two. Just like in Borat, Cohen and director Larry Charles expose prejudice and old-fashioned stupidity in a series of pranks played on the unwitting (some of them celebrities like Congressman Ron Paul in a memorable scene). Very funny at times, even if it’s simply Borat light.
2009-U.S. 81 min. Color. Directed by Larry Charles. Screenplay: Sacha Baron Cohen, Anthony Hines, Dan Mazer, Jeff Schaffer. Cast: Sacha Baron Cohen (Brüno), Gustaf Hammarsten (Lutz).
