Some time after the death of his father (Tom Hanks) at 9/11, young Oskar Schell (Thomas Horn) finds a key inside an envelope marked with the word āBlackā, and embarks on a quest to find the right āBlackā.Ā Considering the talent involved here, this is a huge disappointment, especially from a director who madeĀ The HoursĀ (2002) work so beautifully. The story about a boy dealing with grief after 9/11 has good moments (especially a scene with Jeffrey Wright), but is awfully burdened by its many contrivances; the boyās precociousness is also tough to take.
