Unstoppable

1 MILLION TONS OF STEEL. 100,000 LIVES AT STAKE. 100 MINUTES TO IMPACT.Ā

When an unmanned freight train speeds off at full power, an engineer and a conductor (Denzel Washington, Chris Pine) on a different locomotive try to stop it.Ā Another Tony Scott action thriller starring Washington, their best sinceĀ Crimson TideĀ (1995). This one was based on a real 2001 incident and has no villains and very little bloodshed, refreshingly enough. What it does have is a thrilling scenario reminiscent ofĀ SpeedĀ (1994) that maintains some amount of credibility throughout. Intense, fast-paced (with well-crafted action scenes), the movie also has likable performances by the two leads as working-class heroes.

2010-U.S.-Britain. 98 min. Color. Widescreen.Ā Produced byĀ Mimi Rogers, Tony Scott, Eric McLeod, Julie Yorn, Alex Young.Ā Directed byĀ Tony Scott.Ā Cast:Ā Denzel Washington (Frank Barnes), Chris Pine (Will Colson), Rosario Dawson (Connie Hooper), Kevin Dunn, Ethan Suplee, Kevin Corrigan.

Trivia: Scott’s last film.

Last word:Ā ā€œThis was the most challenging and brilliant adventure Iā€™ve ever encountered because I had to tell a character story inside something going very, very fast. Itā€™s always about the performances ā€“ how I look at these two characters in a way I havenā€™t done before and be honest to who they are.ā€ (Scott, EmanuelLevy.com)
