Aristocats

MEET THE CATS WHO KNOW WHERE IT’S AT… FOR FUN, MUSIC AND ADVENTURE!

aristocatsParis, 1910; a family of cats find themselves in danger when their owner drafts a will that leaves her fortune to the cats… and omits her greedy butler. The last project Walt Disney approved before dying in 1966 is very close in style to One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961), both animation- and story-wise, and there’s a little bit of Baloo in Phil Harris’s characterization of the jazziest cat in town, Thomas O’Malley. Cute and very slight, the movie has its fun chase sequences and one particularly dynamic music act – “Ev’rybody Wants to Be a Cat” is a true show-stopper.

1970-U.S. Animated. 78 min. Color. Directed by Wolfgang Reitherman. Song: “Ev’rybody Wants to Be a Cat” (Floyd Huddleston, Al Rinker). Voices of Eva Gabor (Duchess), Phil Harris (Thomas O’Malley), Sterling Holloway (Roquefort), Scatman Crothers, Paul Winchell, Lord Tim Hudson.

Trivia: The character of Scat the Cat was written for Louis Armstrong; Crothers ended up voicing him.
