Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky

AND SO A PASSIONATE INTENSE LOVE AFFAIR BETWEEN TWO CREATIVE GIANTS BEGINS…

In 1920, Igor Stravinsky (Mads Mikkelsen) and his family, who all fled Russia after the revolution, are invited to stay with Coco Chanel (Anna Mouglalis); a romance between the composer and the fashion icon follows… The movie opens with a spirited rendition of the 1913 performance of “The Rite of Spring” (which started a riot in the audience), but the romance (if indeed it ever happened) and the crisis in marriage between the Stravinskys are a lot less engaging. OK production values, but the two leads are, simply put, dull.

2009-France-Japan-Switzerland. 119 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Jan Kounen. Novel: Chris Greenhalgh (“Coco & Igor”). Cast: Anna Mouglalis (Coco Chanel), Mads Mikkelsen (Igor Stravinsky), Elena Morozova (Katarina Stravinskaya), Natacha Lindinger, Grigori Manoukov, Radivoje Bukvic.
