SOME SECRETS TAKE US TO THE EDGE.Ā
When Boston detective Thomas Craven’s (Mel Gibson) daughter (Bojana Novakovic) is brutally murdered on his doorstep, he finds clues that lead to a powerful energy company. Director Martin Campbell also made the 1985 British miniseries that inspired this violent but emotional thriller. It’s a good transition that tries to soften the negative impact of a predictable Big Evil Corporation story. Somewhat uneven, the movie nevertheless delivers compelling moments along the way. The cast is first-rate, including Gibson in his first starring role in eight years as a lonely, grizzled and grieving cop.
