Surrogates

HOW DO YOU SAVE HUMANITY WHEN THE ONLY THING THAT’S REAL IS YOU?

Sometime in the future, most people prefer to stay at home and experience life through better-looking androids (called “surrogates”); crime has been virtually erased, but then two murders happen… You either buy into this slickly produced concept or you don’t, but Gattaca-type questions raised by it regarding identity and what it means to be a human being are unquestionably predictable. Still, director Jonathan Mostow paces it well, throws in a few exciting action sequences and Bruce Willis is good as the cop who begins to question why a surrogate should live his life.

2009-U.S. 89 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed byĀ Jonathan Mostow. Graphic Novel: Robert Venditti, Brett Weldele. Cast: Bruce Willis (Tom Greer), Radha Mitchell (Jennifer Peters), Rosamund Pike (Maggie Greer), Boris Kodjoe, James Francis Ginty, James Cromwell… Ving Rhames.
