Inkheart

EVERY STORY EVER WRITTEN IS JUST WAITING TO BECOME REAL.

Mortimer Folchart (Brendan Fraser) and his daughter Meggie (Eliza Hope Bennett) are on a trip to Europe, but he spends a lot of time rummaging through old bookstores; Meggie doesn’t know that he has a powerful gift that once made her mother disappear. A movie that relies on a clever concept bound to make the young target audience look at books in a new light. Ideas from great historic novels have been incorporated, but unfortunately the part of the story that’s meant to be original feels far from it and sooner or later one’s attention wanders. Good effects though, especially “The Shadow”.

2008-U.S.-Germany. 106 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Iain Softley. Novel: Cornelia Funke. Cast: Brendan Fraser (Mortimer Folchart), Paul Bettany (Dustfinger), Helen Mirren (Elinor Loredan), Jim Broadbent, Andy Serkis, Eliza Hope Bennett. Cameo: Jennifer Connelly.

Trivia: Rowan Atkinson was allegedly considered for a part. Connelly, who’s married to Bettany, plays his wife in the movie.
