I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry

THEY’RE AS STRAIGHT AS CAN BE, BUT DON’T TELL ANYONE.Ā

In order to guarantee benefits for his kids in case of death, fire fighter Larry Valentine (Kevin James) talks his closest buddy (Adam Sandler) into marrying him in order to get domestic partnership rights. It’s a disappointment to see the names of Alexander Payne and Jim Taylor on this idiotic script; it’s one of those films that pretend to be pro-gay rights but love to indulge in homophobic jokes. Typically unfunny, overlong Sandler fare; Ving Rhames is better than the stars though and some of the silliness is tolerable. Ā

2007-U.S. 110 min. Color. Directed byĀ Dennis Dugan. Screenplay: Barry Fanaro, Alexander Payne, Jim Taylor. Cast: Adam Sandler (Chuck Levine), Kevin James (Larry Valentine), Jessica Biel (Alex McDonough), Dan Aykroyd, Ving Rhames, Steve Buscemi… Richard Chamberlain, Lance Bass. Cameos: Rob Schneider, David Spade.

Trivia: At different points, the pairings of Will Smith-Nicolas Cage and Owen Wilson-Vince Vaughn were allegedly considered for the film.
