Swing Vote

ONE ORDINARY GUY IS GIVING THE CANDIDATES A REASON TO RUN.Ā

Due to a technical glitch, it is up to one man to decide the outcome of the U.S. presidential election; the nation’s attention turns to an unemployed screw-up (Kevin Costner) in New Mexico… On paper, this comedy (with shades of The Great Man Votes (1939)) looks like perfect satire on the media and the two-party system. The filmmakers hit both Republicans and Democrats where it hurts and get able assistance from the actors, especially Costner who’s aptly cast as the lovable loser. Turns pretty conventional after a while, but avoids turning the two candidates into complete cartoons.

2008-U.S. 119 min. Color. Widescreen.Ā Directed byĀ Joshua Michael Stern. Cast: Kevin Costner (Bud Johnson), Kelsey Grammer (Andrew Boone), Paula Patton (Kate Madison), Dennis Hopper, Nathan Lane, Stanley Tucci… George Lopez, Judge Reinhold. Cameos: Willie Nelson, James Carville, Larry King, Bill Maher, Chris Matthews, Arianna Huffington.

Trivia: Co-produced by Costner.
