Shrek Forever After

IT AIN’T OGRE… TIL IT’S OGRE.

Shrek is going through a midlife crisis and becomes an easy victim for Rumpelstiltskin and his wicked plan. The fourth film in the series is in widescreen and 3D, but nothing else has changed. Much like Shrek the Third (2007), the filmmakers take us further down our favorite ogre’s path to maturity and introduce an alternative vision of the kingdom of Far, Far Away. A more unforgiving critic would merit this rehash of earlier entries in the series two stars, but I still find it impressive how the filmmakers manage to cram so many clever jokes and spoofs into yet another (last?) chapter.

2010-U.S. Animated. 93 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Mike Mitchell. Voices of Mike Myers (Shrek), Eddie Murphy (Donkey), Cameron Diaz (Fiona), Antonio Banderas, Walt Dohrn, Jane Lynch… Julie Andrews, John Cleese, Jon Hamm, Kathy Griffin, Mary Kay Place, Meredith Vieira, Ryan Seacrest, Larry King, Regis Philbin.
