The Return of the Pink Panther

YOU MAY REST ASSURED THAT THERE’S TROUBLE, BECAUSE INSPECTOR CLOUSEAU IS ON THE CASE… THAT’S THE TROUBLE.

When the famed Pink Panther is stolen in Lugash, the Phantom (Christopher Plummer) is suspected as always; Inspector Clouseau (Peter Sellers) is on the case, but the Phantom is innocent.Ā The fourth movie in the series reunited Blake Edwards, Sellers and Henry Mancini after the unfortunate third entry, and itā€™s a vast improvement. The story brings back the Phantom from the first movie, with Plummer as an OK replacement for David Niven. Lazy writing and overlength are problems, but Sellers and Herbert Lom are both in smashing shape and Edwards stages a few very funny scenesā€¦ although subtle it ainā€™t.

1975-Britain. 113 min. Color. Widescreen. Produced and directed byĀ Blake Edwards. Screenplay: Frank Waldman, Blake Edwards. Music: Henry Mancini. Cast: Peter Sellers (Jacques Clouseau), Christopher Plummer (Charles Lytton), Catherine Schell (Claudine Lytton), Herbert Lom, Burt Kwouk, Peter Arne.

Trivia:Ā Originally intended as a TV series. Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. was reportedly considered for the part of Sir Charles. Followed byĀ The Pink Panther Strikes AgainĀ (1976).

Quote:Ā ā€œNow heā€™s off to Gstaad. Today, a paradise in the Swiss Alps ā€“ tomorrow, a wasteland.ā€ (Lom on Sellers)
