Whiteout

SEE YOUR LAST BREATH.

U.S. Marshal Carrie Stetko (Kate Beckinsale), who’s stationed at a base in Antarctica, looks into the murder of one of the scientists there and it doesn’t take long for the killer to make himself known. Both critics and the audience gave this adaptation of a graphic novel the cold shoulder, but it isn’t that bad. Shot in Canada, the chilly, isolated location in combination with Dominic Sena’s direction of the action sequences create some tension, although it’s all a simple whodunit. Beckinsale is OK as the Marshal with a dark past.

2009-U.S.-Canada-France. 101 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Dominic Sena. Graphic Novel: Greg Rucka, Steve Lieber. Cast: Kate Beckinsale (Carrie Stetko), Gabriel Macht (Robert Pryce), Tom Skerritt (John Fury), Columbus Short, Alex O’Loughlin, Shawn Doyle.
