Flame and Citron

HEROES WILL RISE. ENEMIES MUST FALL.

Copenhagen, 1944; Flame and Citron (Thure Lindhardt, Mads Mikkelsen) work as hit men for the Danish resistance but find plenty of reasons to question what they’re doing. One of the most expensive Danish movies ever made shows what life under the occupation looked like… well, not really, but it does offer good action sequences, intriguing plot points and convincing period details. The cast is all right, and there’s enough tension to conceal some of the flaws, but the characters and their relationships are not fully explored and the film would have benefited from tighter editing.

2008-Denmark-Czech Republic-Germany. 130 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Ole Christian Madsen. Cast: Thure Lindhardt (Bent “Flame” Faurschou-Hviid), Mads Mikkelsen (Jørgen “Citron” Haagen Schmith), Stine Stengade (Ketty Selmer), Peter Mygind, Mille Lehfeldt, Christian Berkel… Jesper Christensen.

Trivia: Original title: Flammen & Citronen.
