House on Haunted Hill

CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR! BRING YOUR SEAT BELTS!

Millionaire Frederick Loren (Vincent Price) invites five people to his haunted mansion and offers anyone who makes it through the night $10,000. The most famous of director William Castle’s gimmicky movies may have been more fun to experience in a theater where he made sure the audience was treated to “Emergo”, a plastic skeleton that would swoop over their heads. The film is relentlessly silly, the story has more than one logical gap and too many bland performances. But it is genuinely entertaining and features a fun, campy effort from Price as well as many intriguing details, including the little coffins.

1958-U.S. 75 min. B/W. Produced and directed byĀ William Castle. Cast: Vincent Price (Frederick Loren), Carol Ohmart (Annabelle Loren), Richard Long (Lance Schroeder), Alan Marshall, Elisha Cook, Jr., Carolyn Craig.

Trivia: Remade as House on Haunted Hill (1999).
