Arn: The Kingdom at Road’s End

arn2After being separated for years, Arn and Cecilia (Joakim Nätterqvist, Sofia Helin) are finally about to reunite in Sweden… but the days of conflict are not over yet. The sequel to Arn: The Knight Templar (2007) continues where we left off, and the pros and cons of this huge project are the same. Often visually striking, portraying very intense, exciting times. But the characters are flatly written and the two leads are still not able to bring much life to them, which is a fatal flaw in a romantic epic.

2008-Sweden-Norway-Denmark-Germany-Finland-Britain. 128 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Peter Flinth. Novels: Jan Guillou (“The Knight Templar”, “The Kingdom at Road’s End”). Cast: Joakim Nätterqvist (Arn Magnusson), Sofia Helin (Cecilia Algotsdotter), Stellan Skarsgård (Birger Brosa), Gustaf Skarsgård, Fanny Risberg, Joel Kinnaman… Bibi Andersson, Morgan Alling, Tomas Bolme, Göran Ragnerstam.

Trivia: Original title: Arn – riket vid vägens slut. Later shown with the first film on TV as a series, complete with extended material.
