Stop-Loss

THE BRAVEST PLACE TO STAND IS BY EACH OTHER’S SIDE.

A group of Iraq War veterans return to their Texas hometown; when Sergeant Brandon King (Ryan Phillippe) is told that he must go back for another tour of duty, he decides to go AWOL. Every movie about this war has a number of aspects to choose from; director Kimberley Peirce focuses on the dangerous consequences of the Army’s stop-loss policy where a soldier’s service is involuntarily extended. Always on the side of the GIs, the movie opens with a pulse-pounding shootout in Iraq and then proceeds with a drama that is not quite as enthralling… but still relevant. The young cast does its best.

2008-U.S. 112 min. Color. Directed byĀ Kimberly Peirce. Cast: Ryan Phillippe (Brandon King), Abbie Cornish (Michelle), Channing Tatum (Steve Shriver), Joseph Gordon-Levitt, CiarĆ”n Hinds, Timothy Olyphant… Laurie Metcalf.
