HOW DO YOU HOLD ON TO SOMEONE YOU’VE NEVER MET?
Alex (Keanu Reeves) moves into a lake house and starts corresponding with the former resident (Sandra Bullock); they soon discover that they are two years apart. The Speed stars reunite for a romantic remake of a Korean film, Il Mare (2000)… and it’s surprisingly good if you can accept the mailbox-as-a-time machine concept. It gives the film a few opportunities for neat tricks, but it never goes overboard. Reeves and Bullock grow more likable as the story continues (you begin to root for them) and Argentinean director Alejandro Agresti creates a romantic Chicago atmosphere.
