Lock Up

HE IS ONLY SIX MONTHS AWAY FROM FREEDOM. BUT A WARDEN OBSESSED WITH REVENGE WANTS TO TAKE HIS FUTURE AWAY.Ā

Frank Leone (Sylvester Stallone) has only six months left to serve on his sentence when he’s suddenly transferred to a much more brutal prison; its warden, Drumgoole (Donald Sutherland), wants payback… So much in this movie is silly. The concentration camp look of Drumgoole’s hell hole makes the other prison positively church-like. Stallone’s climactic punishment of Sutherland is over the top and the fate of “Maybelline” unapologetically corny. Still, it’s a suitable part for Stallone and I can’t help being entertained on some level by this sadistic nonsense.Ā

1989-U.S. 106 min. Color. Directed byĀ John Flynn. Music: Bill Conti. Cast: Sylvester Stallone (Frank Leone), Donald Sutherland (Drumgoole), Darlanne Fleugel (Melissa), John Amos, Sonny Landham, Tom Sizemore.
