WHAT COULD BE SAFER THAN LIVING NEXT DOOR TO A COP?
When Chris and Lisa Mattson (Patrick Wilson, Kerry Washington) move into a new house, they learn that living next door to a racist LAPD veteran (Samuel J. Jackson) means trouble for a mixed-race couple. This thriller wants to ask serious questions about race relations and remains unpredictable and interesting throughout, with good performances by everyone involved, especially Jackson as the troubled cop. However, introducing plot points where Abel’s behavior makes him look like a preposterous Hollywood villain is a flawed approach.
