National Lampoon’s European Vacation

FOR OVER TWO THOUSAND YEARS, EUROPE HAS SURVIVED MANY GREAT DISASTERS. NOW FOR THE REAL TEST. CHEVY CHASE & HIS FAMILY ARE COMING FROM AMERICA!

europeanvacationThe Griswolds compete in a TV game show and win money for a trip to Europe; the first stop on the journey is England. In the sequel to National Lampoon’s Vacation (1983) new actors were cast as the kids, but Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo are back and they’re still great fun together. As for the movie itself it’s a different story. Americans’ ideas about what European countries look like are confirmed, but few jokes are funny, Eric Idle’s contribution disappointing and by the time we get to Rome we need a break from the Griswolds.

1985-U.S. 94 min. Color. Directed by Amy Heckerling. Screenplay: John Hughes. Cast: Chevy Chase (Clark Griswold), Beverly D’Angelo (Ellen Griswold), Jason Lively (Russell Griswold), Dana Hill, Eric Idle, Victor Lanoux… Mel Smith, Robbie Coltrane.

Trivia: Followed by National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989).
