Beverly Hills Cop II

AXEL FOLEY IS BACK. BACK WHERE HE DOESN’T BELONG.

Upon learning that a friend (Ronny Cox) of his has been shot, Detroit cop Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) goes to Beverly Hills once again to find the culprits, who happen to be professional robbers. One of the most amusing ingredients of the first film was the tension between Foley and the Beverly Hills police department; now they are suddenly the best of friends. That’s not a good thing, neither is the lack of charm and memorable tunes. Still, Murphy knows how to entertain his audience and director Tony Scott paces the film well.

1987-U.S. 102 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Tony Scott. Songs: “I Want Your Sex” (performed by George Michael), “Shakedown” (Harold Faltermeyer, Keith Forsey, Bob Seger). Cast: Eddie Murphy (Axel Foley), Judge Reinhold (Billy Rosewood), Jürgen Prochnow (Maxwell Dent), Ronny Cox, John Ashton, Brigitte Nielsen… Allen Garfield, Dean Stockwell, Paul Reiser, Chris Rock. Cameo: Hugh Hefner.

Trivia: Followed by Beverly Hills Cop III (1994).

Razzie: Worst Original Song (“I Want Your Sex”).
