Knocked Up

WHAT IF THIS GUY GOT YOU PREGNANT?

When a one-night stand leaves Alison (Katherine Heigl) pregnant, she and Ben (Seth Rogen) agree to have the baby and get to know each otherā€¦ but heā€™s not really ready to change his life.Ā Another overlong, profanity-laden but warm and funny film from the guy who brought usĀ The 40 Year Old VirginĀ (2005) ā€“ and this one has a very serious agenda. It shows the travails of a young marriage (between Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann) and the relationship between people about to become parents ā€“ itā€™s not easy. The filmmakersā€™ own experiences must have been the filmā€™s foundation. Very nice performances by the leads. Funniest scene? The trip to Vegas.

2007-U.S. 129 min. Color.Ā Produced byĀ Judd Apatow, Shauna Robertson, Clayton Townsend.Ā Written and directed byĀ Judd Apatow.Ā Cast:Ā Seth Rogen (Ben Stone), Katherine Heigl (Alison Scott), Paul Rudd (Pete), Leslie Mann, Jason Segel, Harold Ramis… Bill Hader, Kristen Wiig.Ā Cameos:Ā Jessica Alba, Steve Carell, Ryan Seacrest, James Franco, Eva Mendes.

Trivia:Ā Anne Hathaway was allegedly first cast as Alison. Followed byĀ This Is 40 (2012).Ā

Last word: “I didnā€™t set out to make the movie too Jew-centric, to create a word for this conversation. But Seth is a Jewish guy and all his friends are Jewish, at least the ones I cast in the movie, so I thought itā€™d be funny that they talk about it, because itā€™s truthful to their experience.Ā  I didnā€™t set out to make any kind of statement like ā€˜You can have five Jews in a movie.ā€™ I think we saw that can be done in ā€˜TheĀ Chosen.ā€™ But, if they were all some other religion, I would have had them talking about that. I didnā€™t want to shy away from it. I thought it was fun not to shy away from it. That these young Jewish guys are proud to be Jewish and they talk about ā€˜Munichā€™ and their Jewfro style hairstyles and that itā€™s all O.K. I think there is a classic clash in film comedy between Jewish guys and non-Jewish women trying to figure each other.” (Apatow, Collider)
