Death Proof

A WHITE-HOT JUGGERNAUT AT 200 MILES PER HOUR!

deathproofA retired stuntman (Kurt Russell) drives around the South in his old “death-proof“ car and tries to charm women; the question is if they can survive a ride with him. The second part of the Quentin Tarantino/Robert Rodriguez experiment Grindhouse certainly looks like one of those old exploitation flicks that the director admires, right up to the scratched film look. Lovingly put together, but the difference may lie in the cast; these actors are a lot better than those in the original movies, not least Russell as the psychopathic stuntman. Very amusing, but should have been a half hour shorter.

2007-U.S. 114 min. Color. Widescreen. Written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. Cast: Kurt Russell (Stuntman Mike), Rosario Dawson (Abernathy), Vanessa Ferlito (Arlene), Jordan Ladd, Rose McGowan, Sydney Poitier… Eli Roth, Quentin Tarantino.

Trivia: Co-produced by Tarantino and Rodriguez. Professional stuntman Zoë Bell plays herself (in grand fashion). Originally released in the U.S. as part of the double bill Grindhouse; released overseas in this expanded version. Rodriguez’s contribution to the double bill is Planet Terror.
