One of Richard Pryor’s last standup movies, from the days when they were shown in theaters rather than as HBO specials. This one was taped a while after the comedian managed to set himself on fire while freebasing cocaine, an experience he makes light of; other jokes touch on a visit to Africa (best part of the film, with Pryor finding a nice balance  between comedy and substance) and the differences between men and women. Pryor looks like he’s in good shape in his bright red suit… but I can’t honestly say I found much of his material very funny or original (even though the audience seems to adore him no matter what).
1982-U.S. 82 min. Color. Directed by Joe Layton. Featuring Richard Pryor.
Trivia:Â Jesse Jackson can be spotted in the audience.
