The State Within

A BRITISH TERRORIST ON U.S. SOIL? NOTHING IS WHAT IT SEEMS.

statewithinWhen a passenger plane explodes in Washington, the suicide bomber turns out to be British; U.K. Ambassador Mark Brydon (Jason Isaacs) learns that there’s more behind the attack. A bombastic BBC miniseries made in the style of 24; no one is to be trusted, the government in particular, and evil, powerful white people will kill anyone who figures out that the Muslim “terrorist” is innocent. A convoluted story that tries to make the work of an embassy look cooler than it is; plenty of surprises along the way make this an exciting thriller. And amusing, with Brits for once showing the Yanks how to deal with international crises.

2006-Britain. Made for TV. 380 min. Color. Directed byĀ Daniel Percival, Michael Offer. Cast: Jason Isaacs (Mark Brydon), Ben Daniels (Nicholas Brocklehurst), Eva Birthistle (Jane Lavery), Neil Pearson, Genevieve O’Reilly, Sharon Gless.

Trivia: Shown on TV in either three or seven episodes.
