TWO DIFFERENT WORLDS. ONE TRUE LOVE.

With this film, Disney discarded all the old fairy tales and chose to dramatize an historical event, the story of how John Smith met and fell in love with Pocahontas, the daughter of an Indian chief, in the New World. This Disneyfication of history was heavily criticized (and no one should mistake the film for a history lesson), but if you ignore that you will find a beautifully animated (purple, blue and green are primary colors), reasonably entertaining love story with great music. However, many kids in the audience will find portions of the film dull, and the lead characters aren’t all that memorable.

Trivia: John Candy was reportedly considered for a role as a sidekick, but the character was dropped after Candy’s death in 1994. Followed by a video sequel, Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World (1998).
