Because I Said So

SHE’S JUST YOUR NORMAL, OVERPROTECTIVE, OVERBEARING, OVER-THE-TOP MOTHER.

Daphne Wilder (Diane Keaton) spends every waking moment trying to get her three daughters married; she goes too far the day she puts an ad in the paper for her youngest daughter (Mandy Moore). Director Michael Lehmann’s romantic comedy is supposed to be a star vehicle for Keaton, but Moore upstages her, turning in a very attractive performance. Keaton on the other hand has too many scenes that give her an opportunity to overact and she ends up being a nuisance, even to us, not just her daughters. It’s a very slight film, but hardly disagreeable.

2007-U.S. 102 min. Color. Directed by Michael Lehmann. Cast: Diane Keaton (Daphne Wilder), Mandy Moore (Milly Wilder), Gabriel Macht (Johnny), Tom Everett Scott, Lauren Graham, Piper Perabo.
