Christine

SHE’LL POSSESS YOU. THEN DESTROY YOU. SHE’S DEATH ON WHEELS. SHE’S CHRISTINE.

Twenty years after she was built, a Plymouth Fury called Christine ends up in the hands of a nerdy, bullied high school kid (Keith Gordon) who instantly begins to change… for the worse. One of cinema’s most famous horror directors teamed up with one of the most famous horror novelists to make a movie about a demonic… car. It’s a challenge, but they kind of pull it off. Stephen King’s familiar themes and ingredients are all here; it’s not one of his most inspired stories, but Christine sure is a feisty lady. John Carpenter paces the film well and some of the sequences involving the car are effectively staged.

1983-U.S. 111 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by John Carpenter. Novel: Stephen King. Music: John Carpenter, Alan Howarth. Cast: Keith Gordon (Arnie Cunningham), John Stockwell (Dennis Guilder), Alexandra Paul (Leigh Cabot), Robert Prosky, Harry Dean Stanton, Christine Belford… Kelly Preston.

Trivia: Scott Baio and Brooke Shields were allegedly considered for roles; Kevin Bacon for the lead. The film was shot and released the same year as the novel was published.
