Sports Night

Aaron Sorkinā€™s first TV show blew some fresh air into network television, but has since been eclipsed by far greater cable shows. To a certain degree, this story about the crew behind a New York sports show was slightly reminiscent ofĀ M*A*S*HĀ in content and style, but never achieved greatness during its short run in spite of the potential. The writer got a chance to hone the ā€œSorkinspeakā€ ahead ofĀ The West WingĀ and the cast members always looked enthusiastic. The characters were genuinely likable and there were earnest stabs at portraying the rift between management and the people on the floor. It wasnā€™t very funny though and the drama was too light.

1998-2000:U.S. Made for TV. 45 episodes. Color. Created byĀ Aaron Sorkin. Cast: Josh Charles (Dan Rydell), Peter Krause (Casey McCall), Felicity Huffman (Dana Whitaker), Joshua Malina, Sabrina Lloyd, Robert Guillaume.

Trivia:Ā Sorkin reportedly first tried to turn the concept into a movie.

Emmy:Ā Outstanding Directing 98-99.
