Matchstick Men

LIE CHEAT STEAL RINSE REPEAT

Roy Waller (Nicolas Cage), an OCD-stricken con man, finds out that he has a 14-year-old daughter (Alison Lohman); when they get to know each other, she begs him to teach her a few of his tricks. An entertaining film by a great director that also features a leading performance from Cage that is perfect for the jittery Roy Waller. He is nicely supported by Lohman who’s very convincing as your average teenager (with unexpected depth). Watching their growing relationship is amusing, even cute… but then darkness falls. The twist is very clever although perhaps a tad too extravagant to make viewers believe it.

2003-U.S. 116 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed byĀ Ridley Scott. Novel: Eric Garcia. Music: Hans Zimmer. Cast: Nicolas Cage (Roy Waller), Sam Rockwell (Frank Mercer), Alison Lohman (Angela), Bruce Altman, Bruce McGill, Sheila Kelley.
