Charlotte (Jennifer Lopez) meets dreamboat Kevin Fields (Michael Vartan), but has no idea that his mother, famous and mentally unstable journalist Viola Fields (Jane Fonda), will do anything to separate them. It took 15 years for Fonda to make another movie after Stanley & Iris (1990), but her choice of vehicle is a hysterical comedy that few cared for. Lopez and Vartan let her take charge, and she has amusing moments, although the battle between the mom and the daughter-in-law grows tiresome.
