monalisasmileIn 1953, new arts history teacher Katherine Watson (Julia Roberts) arrives at the prestigious Wellesley College in Massachusetts and tries to make her female students consider a career, not just marriage. A movie in the vein of Dead Poets SocietyĀ (1989), with the new teacher trying to change a conservative academic environment, but director Mike Newell fails to infuse his feminist drama with the kind of passion that Robertsā€™s character wants to see in her students. Still, the young actors who play the girls are well worth a look.Ā
