Young shipyard welder Jake Huard (James Franco) joins the Naval Academy in Annapolis and eventually finds his passion: boxing. Why is it so difficult to make a novel film about military cadets? This one has no mind of its own whatsoever and hits every cliché in the book. Several similarities to An Officer and a Gentleman (1982), with a difference: the filmmakers feel a need to go out with a predictable boxing bout. Franco isn’t bad, but his character is awfully dull.
2006-U.S. 103 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Justin Lin. Cast: James Franco (Jake Huard), Tyrese Gibson (Cole), Jordana Brewster (Ali), Donnie Wahlberg, Vicellous Reon Shannon, Chi McBride.
