Heartbreakers

CAUTION: DANGEROUS CURVES AHEAD.

Sigourney Weaver and Jennifer Love Hewitt as a pair of con artists, a treacherous mother-daughter couple? Sure, it works. Even the latter is a good choice for her part as a temptress who longs for independence from her legendary mom. They’re accompanied by Gene Hackman as the red-nosed millionaire who becomes their next victim. All the attempts here to trick horny men with money fall short of greatness, but the dialogue is sharp and the plot takes enough twists and turns to avoid boredom. These “dirty rotten scoundrels” don’t become too mean-spirited for their own good.

2001-U.S. 123 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by David Mirkin. Cast: Sigourney Weaver (Max Conners), Jennifer Love Hewitt (Page Conners), Gene Hackman (William Tensy), Ray Liotta, Jason Lee, Anne Bancroft… Carrie Fisher, Sarah Silverman, Zach Galifianakis, Kevin Nealon.

Trivia: Cher and Jennifer Aniston were allegedly considered for the leads.
