Superbad

COME AND GET SOME.

superbadTeenagers Seth and Evan (Jonah Hill, Michael Cera) are determined not to leave high school as virgins; a big party might solve the problem, but the hunt for liquor becomes an adventure.Ā It does sound like your averageĀ American PieĀ (1999) clone, but it was made by the people behindĀ The 40 Year Old VirginĀ (2005) and has the same successful mix of raunchy gags and heartfelt emotions. The writers wrote the story when they were 13 and you seldom see this kind of a genuine description of high school. The actors (including newcomer Christopher Mintz-Plasse) are very charming; less believable are Seth Rogen and Bill Hader as two totally immoral cops, but they’re hilarious nonetheless.

2007-U.S. 112 min. Color.Ā Produced byĀ Judd Apatow, Shauna Robertson.Ā Directed byĀ Greg Mottola.Ā Screenplay:Ā Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg.Ā Cast:Ā Jonah Hill (Seth), Michael Cera (Evan), Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Fogell), Bill Hader, Seth Rogen, Martha MacIsaacā€¦ Emma Stone, Dave Franco.

Trivia:Ā Also available in a 10-minute longer version. Stone and Franco’s first film.

Last word: “In comedies there is usually a very heightened reality. Even though in ‘Superbad’ we tried to ā€“ we tried to find the kind of baseline reality that we would stick to. We wouldnā€™t go completely over the top although arguably the things with the cops are pretty over the top. But you know, we still didnā€™t want it to be like things where you know, people are ā€“ I donā€™t know. Didnā€™t quite have like the ‘Harold and Kumar’ reality. And Iā€™m not trying to knock that movie, Iā€™m just saying that movie is much more surreal.” (Mottola, The Independent Critic)
